Requirements for In-Person Showcase:
- Each student participating in the showcase will have a 6 ft table for their display.
- Report to sign-in station at 10:30 am to receive your table assignment and name tag. Students will report back to class at 1:30.
- Plan and create your presentation. Most students create tri-fold displays (suggestions and instructions below).
- If your product is a digital media product (e.g. a video or audio recording), you should show a sample of it. Please use your school issued Chromebook to do this.
- If your product is something tangible, you will need to bring your product or a visual display if it cannot be transported to school.
- If you produced an outcome, you should show pictures and/or video of the outcome.
If you create a tri-fold poster for your presentation here are some suggestions:
- TOP TIP: One of the most common mistakes people make when creating a poster is to overload it with information - TRY AND AVOID THIS! No one wants to read a poster that is jammed full of text. A poster should represent a ‘snapshot’ of your work - so show the bits that are most interesting and which can be represented by both text AND high quality images.
- Your poster should be eye-catching; it should draw people towards it. However, be aware that your use of colors is just as important in the poster as it is when you are making a PowerPoint presentation. So, avoid clashing colors! A background color for the poster board that contrasts with the color of the paper used for the text often works well, e.g. a dark blue poster board with text printed on white paper.
- Your title and name should be clearly represented at the top of your poster. Use the template provided here for direction.
- It is useful to design your poster around the Investigation, Planning, Taking Action, and Reflection Criteria of your report.
- Make sure that your poster is actually legible and remember that people may be reading it from a distance- SO KEEP THE TEXT SIZE LARGE (minimum 24 point font).
- Keep the text formatting consistent throughout (i.e. use the same font and colors for main text, titles of individual sections etc.).
- Make sure that your poster has a ‘story’ to tell but remember that people will not necessarily be reading all of it, or they may read just bits of it. Please make sure that whatever you include is interesting!
- Make good use of images throughout your poster - but make sure these are of high quality and are relevant to the work you are presenting.
- An easy way to create posters can be to use PowerPoint or Google Slides, which has the advantage that changes can easily be made on screen before final printing.
Virtual Showcase
PLEASE UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO BY MARCH 30th 9:00 PM
Link to sign up form: https://forms.gle/aCZPS3LXz3kGujxi8forms.gle/aCZPS3LXz3kGujxi8 Virtual Showcase Instructions:
You'll need to create a video (phone turned horizontally) of yourself describing your project, SPEAK CLEARLY, and be sure to include the following information...
The whole thing should last about a minute or so. Once you're ready to post your video, go to the Padlet on the right. or at tinyurl.com/MHSPP2021 ...then watch Mr. Nielson's example, and create your video by clicking on the pink + button in the bottom corner of the page. Be sure to write your name hyphen/comma your teacher's name, and your project title in the box (just like Mr. Nielson's). It works great on phones AND laptops! If this takes you more than 5-10 minutes to do and upload, you’re honestly doing something wrong. Please know the video will have to be approved by a Personal Project Supervisor before it appears on the Padlet.. |
