Step One- What is the Personal Project?
Lesson- Introduction & Brainstorming
Activity- Watch the Class of 2022's Virtual Personal Project Showcase Here!
Brainstorm Activity
-Open the Brainstorm Activity,
-Make a copy of the document by selecting the File Tab (top left corner of doc) and make a
copy to type into, fill in the document, and save to your Google drive
-Follow the directions on the activity and complete the first Process Journal (highlighted in yellow at the end of Brainstorming Activity). You will turn this in to be reviewed by your teacher. Process Journal Form for Google Drive

- What do you want to learn?
- What is the history of your personal interest in this topic?
Step Two- Global Context and your Personal Project.
Lesson- Review this Global Context Powerpoint and/or this Global Context Chart
Watch this VIDEO to see students explanations of their Global Context Choices
Activity-After viewing this Powerpoint answer the following Prompt in your Process Journal in Google Drive.
Process Journal Prompt-
-Use a Global Context to FOCUS your topic.
-Explain how your choice of GC has helped you focus in on a certain element of your topic of interest.
-Why does this GC work best? You could say how a different GC might have informed your project differently,
and what limitations your chosen context placed on you.
Step Three- Approaches to Learning & IB Learners Profile
Lesson- Review the Approaches to Learning Infographic and the IB Learners Profile Infographic
Activity- After reviewing the two infographics open your process journal and answer the following prompt.
Process Journal Prompt-
- What is your GOAL going to be?
- How has your Global Context helped you arrow down your goal?
- How is YOUR project going to be HIGHLY challenging for you? Refer and include reference to the ATL Skills and Learner Profile Attributes in your response.
Step Four- Prior Knowledge
Lesson- Review the Prior Knowledge Example from a Report
Activity- Answer this weeks Process Journal Prompt.
Process Journal Prompt-
-Prior learning and subject specific knowledge. This is Essential.
-What have you covered in another MYP class about your project topic?
-How has it helped you and prepared you for this project?
Step 5- Research
Lesson- Researching is an ATL (Approaches to learning) skill that takes practice.
Excellent research skills include choosing a variety of relevant sources, justifying our selection of sources, and evaluating your sources using a formal evaluation tool.
Activity- Review RESEARCH INFOGRAPHIC that explains the difference between information literacy and media Literacy skills.
Next, find at least 5 sources of differing types of media (fill out THIS CHART, remember to make a copy for your Google Drive) Here is an example of the chart for Ms. Michel's project.
Process Journal
Is your completed chart saved in your school Google Drive. Chart should include 5 sources.
-What sources did you use (Create an MLA citation using Easybib)
-Take notes from the source; Use bullet points, key words, pictures etc. Whatever helps you.
-How do you know your sources are credible? Accurate? Relevant? Unbiased? USE CRAAP TEST
-Make a note of what aspect of your project the source helps with. This means you can scan your notes for areas you want to review, or revisit to support your personal report writing.
